foreign [Music] I'm Isabella Wade I am a junior Here uh Mason right I'm a senior here I'm Alyssa Nexus I'm a junior I'm Jill walzer and I'm a senior I'm Michaela White House and I'm a junior and uh one of the reasons like we started this podcast was last year sitting in Miss Anderson's social media marketing class and I really had always listened to a lot of podcasts so I've always been interested in Thomas Anderson I was like we should do a podcast and then she kind of made a bunch of assignments and was like making the logos like doing all that it was really interesting I just sparked last year really yeah so I think I've had a little bit a lot of backgrounds in podcasting because of my dad my dad has his own podcast he has Us on YouTube so miss Anderson reached out to my dad because she found out that my dad was the podcast um genius that's what we like to call him and was like I don't know what to do can you help us by that said sure I can come in and help us and he set up us with the system he taught us everything how to do it and he set us up with the mics we also he talked about to have a broadcast room and like how we would be able to set that up but we decided to do it in here now and yeah I think we learned a lot from him and so I would like to give credit to him we're a credit pits I I really just wanted to do it because I thought it would be a fun experience like a learning experience I've definitely learned a lot so uh for me that was I think the only reason why I joined the podcast is I was casually mentioning that I used to be in steinmet's room and um you know doing design and whatnot but beyond that I've also been doing some audio engineering and some music production as well on the side so I've gotten used to like manipulating audio and learning how to use uh many audio manipulation software it's like audacity and FL Studio so I'm already used to that so I just started editing it um I like to be on podcasts because I'd like to speak for the community and be involved in it know what's going on to me and I like the whole like e-commerce padlet so now we have this podcast how have you selected the folks that's going to come out here and speak to podcasts I think a lot of it is based off like really what's going on like we had I think our first episode was full gym that's our new principle like you know that's kind of like you have to like he's the principal like he's the new principal at that and he'd been in the school for a while like before that he was I think a teacher my freshman year and then he was an assistant principal after that and uh so that was kind of just a given and after that it's really just based off like what's going on in school like we had Kendrick on our football coach he's it was his first season so you know he got to speak to him see what his thoughts are it really it's just like what's happening in the school yeah mostly just like new coaches or like the new principal um that we've interviewed we've also done some students and we did our red rowdies which that's a big thing here it's our student base uh like leadership whenever we go like football games they lead our crowds like basketball soccer do they do soccer yeah soccer right yeah we had a we had a decent crowd at the six region final you know it was just a couple of us but I soccer doesn't get the love that it's no that's not soccer deserves shout out to a boy Colin Elder he's a he's a dog on the soccer field shout out to him so what's the name of the student group again Fred rowdies there we go yeah it's uh Jack Matthews and Abby Jackson they are the leaders of that and I think Mama Joe helps with us does she like how to kind of help me Miss Anderson is to us like organizing our podcast Mama Joe is there miss Anderson so you said you had students on here what was the student's focus when they were on here um we were talking to Jack and Abby about their plans for future football games and basketball games just with the student section in general and then we did the football players too yeah that was uh Cameron Brogan and Travis Egan Travis is our starting quarterback and Cameron plays wide receiver both really good friends of mine Travis actually just broke his dad's record in passing yards at bullet East which I think that kind of simple like dignifies what broad East is like if you're out here breaking your Dad's passing records like it just shows how like small our community is and like everything's tied together it's all family oriented and really shows how our community is so what I'm hearing you say is the community needs very very oriented right yeah how are you practicing the inclusion with the students here in the podcast I think so I think outside of school like because this area is like such a small community but like we're all I know a lot of people who are very inclusive and accepting of other people so I think that we can tie that in with our podcast by you know uh talking about like the [ __ ] the Multicultural club or you know people who are coming in as supporting students Etc because we do have foreign exchange students here at the school yeah I think like the past couple years we've gotten multiple foreign exchange students come in and they're always I know a couple friends of mine there was a girl from uh Austria last year and uh she was very included in everything like they were always hanging out with her and it's just cool to see like that's a different perspective because you see like it's interesting to learn how like other countries work and like how they honestly see reactions when they come to America of seeing like oh you all do this that way as if they're like we do it in our country this way that's like really interesting to see and like or underclassmen retakes or make a picture please report to the CCC gym okay so we talked about having foreign exchange students and them feeling included how are you ensuring that they have a sense of belonging because when we include them invite them so they can be included but when you really feel like you belong you can see yourself in those spaces I think that all starts with you really have to build the friendship with that person like if you're gonna you can't you can't invite them just because you feel like you have to and then not really speak to them it's really all about like when you do invite them to do things with you or just hang out in general you really have to have a friendship there because when you have that friendship there that's when they start to feel belong belonging I feel like they feel like they're actually a part of something not just there because they're new to the school or I feel like when you start having a friendship with them they really feel like they belong I feel like a lot of people here care like about like others cultures and are interested in it so it's important to make them like know that they're like belonging belonging yeah they have a sense of belonging so how can you use this platform that you have to uplift this device I think we should bring in we want to exchange students I think that's a good idea of bringing them in and like uh talking to them about like their culture how they think like it's different from here like from here and there because they're from two different countries I mean there's a lot of things different that we do here when we go overseas because I went overseas like twice and there's a huge cultural basis because I went to Europe uh on so like the England side stuff like that and they do a complete different things whenever I went to Spain and Italy and it's like over there it's like different states like to do for us like countries are like we're gonna have to fly eight hours for them it's like going like Kentucky to Tennessee so they're like really like it's different than whenever we're here talking about things if that makes sense I I have I went with her in seventh grade we went to Ireland of Scotland on a school trip um yeah I've never been anywhere International now I really want to go back I really want to go to Ireland this goes beautiful place so beautiful I'm a big UFC fan I love Conor McGregor so you know yes yeah we did that with our middle school that's how we went that's how I did it too can we go to the second one yeah and we got to go to like Washington DC yeah it wasn't that trip it was uh it was it yeah it was from the international travel Club oh okay because that when my seventh grade year for fall break I went to Ireland Scotland um and then we had like a layover in Amsterdam but I I stepped foot and answering so I say I went yeah and then my spring break in seventh grade I went to Spain France modaco and Italy so that gave me a little bit more like I can see different like outlets and everything Italy completely ruined pizza for me because now I come back here and I just cannot eat it now it's like it's not right so I think it really does help going outside let me ask you about your student affinity any senior who needs a text or Drake picture made for their yearbook and transcript please report to the CCC gym this is the last chance to take a text and Drake picture also any Junior who needs a makeup picture made or retake please report to the CCC gym thank you to Infinity groups are you familiar with student Affinity groups so many groups that are students so you may be familiar with significant black student unions they called bsus there are groups that help support LGBT lgbti busy there are different groups they may be like during the national club and that's just for those particular students do you guys have any of those student groups here we have a GTA or uh yeah gender sexuality uh I went I was a part of it for a little bit uh we just kind of go over like gender sexuality like what those are and there's just a bunch of people in those community in that club so do you feel like the students are very supportive in GSA oh yeah for sure there's the most supportive people in that club but um one time some people went in there like as a joke so we had to kick them out I think I was sitting outside of school that day I was waiting for my brother to come pick me up and these kids came out and they were saying some stuff and I was just like I think that's what they were a part of I think they went in there and like messed around I was like come on dude like no if you don't I'm not agreeing with it's whatever but it's just you know move on about your day like don't go out of your way to make other people feel not included or like they don't have a voice at that on that specific topic because like we said before we started this everybody has a voice and if they don't feel like their voice is hard then that's just going to be a chain of effect then they're gonna be like no if my voice isn't heard then your voice can't be heard if well then those people are gonna be like well my voice can't be heard then those people can't be hard and then at the very end no one's voice is going to be heard yeah yeah so how if you wanted to start a super failure from here because I'm always looking at our research as a gaps that we have in our buildings so what would you say first is a group that probably could be uplifted more in your building how would you support that group we have a group of GSA but think about all the students we have here what is one group that you think that we could uplift so we have the platform to do it so it could be uplift and it's platform I think specifically like non-white non-caucasian individuals could really be uplifted you know there's not a lot of that sort of diversity in this building but it could be refreshing to see that sort of thing be more uplifted in you know or a highlight I think also that I agree with him on that one but also like kids that are more like like more so like the quiet kids I guess you could say that's like the narrative in high school you have here like your quieter kids I think those kids deserve to be like her even like if they don't necessarily want to be and they're more like quiet kids like their opinions still matter and like always want to we want to hear what everyone has to say and those kids I think really could give us some good information really the whole school good information the quiet kids are the ones that hear everything and so they'll be able to tell us the Dark Secrets behind everything like not that I really want to hear about the really really dark secrets but I just feel like that you can you can learn a lot more from quiet kids the black market Secrets maybe who knows I mean they they hear everything because usually the people that listen are the people that are smarter they always say Secrets Don't Make Friends so I'm not a big secret keeper man sometimes every school has to do impact surveying if you break out you know if you feel like you have a connection with someone in school and you also say that okay to miss Anderson if we have students who may feel like they don't have a connection to adult in the school how can you encourage students to find the connection with an adult in the school I think we have tons of teachers that are different so it's like they could one student could like a teacher and that's just their teacher because they preferred that one because it's their good teacher for them yeah my if you're trying to really find a connection with a teacher mine was pretty easy because I came in freshman year I had Miss Anderson for three years of my high school career so it was kind of just like me and her we at first it was rough me and Miss Anderson didn't really get along freshman year we didn't we didn't bond too well and then sophomore engineer I guess I matured as some would say and we came closer and not necessarily friends but it was Anderson kind of became friends you know not not in that way but like and also Mr swear that's another person I've really he's just like everyone loves Mr swear he's just a great person so I know I connected with Miss Anderson over dance because every single time her and her daughter would do something she'd be like Bella can you believe what this lady did and so it was always that and I just I always looked forward to it I always look forward to coming to her class for her to tell me what one and I'd have to tell her Miss Anderson that's normal I mean this is how this always goes like I've been doing this for a while and it only gets worse but I feel like that and I also connected a lot with down through FBLA and um I've been nephili for two years now yeah and um future Business Leaders of America I'm vice president one of the vice presidents and then um Alyssa's in it uh yeah I'm in a family um I'm not I don't have a leadership role or anything but I do really enjoy it yeah it's really fun I highly recommend it I also connect I look down yeah he's great and I Ellen Sanderson I came in my freshman year we were online and so we had to do our little Google meets but it was fun and then whenever we were in person I remember my class was a we were a smaller class like five people in the class it was so much fun we were all just like really close and so I we all got close from Sanderson and then I had her my sophomore year so and then I don't have her this year but sadly I didn't celebrate this year yeah they are speaking high up on those Google meets like she didn't have me getting up at 70. for a 7 28 and Google me yeah I'm laying in bed and she's like camera on and I'm like yeah it sounds like in my bed still laying in the bed make sure your camera I went to Florida I race dirt bikes and I went to Florida for a race Thanksgiving week and uh she was scheduling these Google meets and I was like first of all there was no service we're in the middle of a field like there's and like right outside of Gainesville we're in the middle of the field there's no no service whatsoever because you have a thousand campers sitting in this field like there's so many people here and I'm trying to get on this Google me it ain't loading eventually I was just I emailed it I was like Hey ain't no service here uh I can't I guess give me my zeros I don't know because it ain't gonna work I'll see you when I get back luckily it was only two days though because we were off still off the Wednesday Thursday Friday for Thanksgiving so you mentioned that that is you know community how are you bringing in the community into the school a lot of that I think you see on Friday nights of alumni that are here the amount of parents that are here just to support like our our opener for Spencer County I don't don't quote me on this I heard we had 6 000 tickets sold it was actually it was it was it was there was no parking spots without parking in the field part like the traffic was like 30 minutes when it usually it's like 15. I think this Friday is going to be even bigger just the importance of this game but I think that's really what our our school I would say is more like athletic oriented just because I feel like that's what bullets has always been like we're not like an athletic dominant school I guess compared to like the schools in Louisville because like I mean they just the schools in Louisville just have they have more like they're always significantly a little bit better than us in every aspect but I would say our community really rallies together on Friday nights and that's when you see a lot of it like you don't get that at many other places and you really get big Community Support here at Belize there's other community things too like Halloween in the Halls that's a big Community thing oh yeah the Fall Festival that's another big one I heard I saw a tweet I can't remember who tweeted it it was something about the fall festivals they were saying we need bigger areas next year definitely does like I was um I volunteered with it was really busy like I'm not what is the fall field I've never been like craft fair kind of there's a bunch of people who make their own little craft stuff and they sell it there what other areas could the community come in and tap into the school outside of Athletics in the Fall Festival what else could the community do in the school that you see I think the community really could get involved more in our academic like State like because I don't want to say academics are overlooked by the community like outside of the school because like inside the school obviously we all care about academics that's what we're here to do we go to school like you don't go to school to not be academically like do academics so I think the community on the outside could put like a little more like I guess faith in our academics like not Faith like I'm not saying they don't trust us yeah resources that's the word I'm looking for I would say that's where we need as a school the most community supported well that look like what does that look like I'm gonna be honest I I don't know how that would go about like I think maybe like some funding for like Advanced academic uh like things to like learn with like maybe like Advanced like classrooms or like say we have a like field trips like if we want to like yeah merchantment stuff yeah and I would like to jump in um just to mention we're talking about enrichment activities and and more resources we've had we do have parents that have um their own businesses Isabella's father Mr Wade he donated a large amount about nine thousand dollars to our business department and we were able to purchase TVs additional uh tables things that we needed to make our classroom look a little more business oriented so we do have those those parents and those businesses in the community that will provide because they want their students their children to be successful so if their child is successful then others can leads to the community as a whole being successful I also wanted to add I was just listening to what Mason said about um Angel they mentioned the Multicultural club and you asked what can the podcast do to enhance or you know involve more people we're in the beginning stages so we've only had five I think this is our fifth episode and so we are slowly but surely trying to diversify and open up those options I know a couple of weeks ago Mason mentioned he wanted to um interview Mr swearing who's one of the co-advisors to the Multicultural Club so they're in the process of getting there it's just that because renew is taking us a little longer um to do so and because they mentioned we're athletic school and the students really love love that and the community does he kind of started in that area to gain that interest so we could increase our numbers and followers I want to jump off of what Miss Anderson said about my dad and so they reached out to him and was like we need help with the TVs and this type of stuff and my dad was me and my dad sat down had a conversation about this and he was like I really want to do it because I'm in a state of financially that I can and I'm really big about if it can it's not just it can help you it can help people go down like Generations after Generations he said because that's big for me that I really really want to make sure that kids have resources because how he grew up he didn't have those same resources my dad's a child of bankruptcy so the one day I think he was eight his parents came in and said we've lost the business we've lost everything and he knew what it was like to grow up with nothing and so he has made sure of everything that he's done that not only me but no other child it will grow up like that because he really wants to make sure that that history does not repeat because you can do you can fix things but you if you don't fix it history will repeat itself and it's been shown that statistically yeah I agree everything that we do podcast statistically wise couldn't be done without her dad I mean he really I do I remember that day he came in here and talked to us he really was he really was on my case he was calling me out I was I think it's because I was sitting at this table and because the podcast was kind of like sparked for me and I was like we were all talking about it and I was I was I was hounding them with questions I had so many questions for him I was like and it was I just I'm very thankful for him that the donations he's made it's I remember that thing too I was so excited for you to give it to me and he was like you I remember that yeah I I love Izzy's dad he's done a lot for me like with the podcast he's taught me but I've been friends with Izzy since sixth grade so he's done a lot for me just in my life too he's been in my house so much she's on vacations like I don't think I ever go to over to her house without getting Like A Life Lesson from Chad encourage you to do next steps this is early in the game but you've been doing this like she said five or six episodes yeah it's always check the pulse of what you're doing so you can see that by your numbers growing but also look at the pluses things are going well and the delts things that you can approve or you can do go back as I say old school do a nice little squat analysis the strengths and weaknesses your opportunities and the threats and think about how you can really grow this to the next level and how this can build to capacity because some of you are seniors and will be leaving the happy new maintain this and think about you know we talked about community and how can you bring them in how we can bring other students in to really think about how you can expect it the kudos to starting it um and you see your voices and your father who are providing that the equipment and the opportunity um for this podcast need to grow so what messages you have for students in Kentucky because this will be shared to all our students in this Commonwealth about the beyond the charges podcast if they want to start a podcast what's one um encouraging message you would share with them the lessons I have would be first off go give us a lesson on Spotify that's my first message uh if you have an idea like if you have a dream like go do it like you know like you got to turn those dreams into reality like if you have a vision you're like hey I want to do this like don't don't sit around and wait for somebody to come to you and do it you go go go attack the gold do it yourself like always go out and just do it basically just yeah you never know what could happen so grow with my son but I also like the only person that's stopping you is you so if you like have second guessing in yourself then you're not gonna do it but if you just like go into it and you're gonna like you're either gonna regret it or you're gonna have you're gonna find something that you really really liked so I would rather regret something than no then live with the regret that I didn't do it I mean also another more advice is it's okay to fail yeah like failure is going to happen like we've had episodes right especially that episode with Cameron and Travis I I mean because Cameron Travis are like they're they're my boys so like I was out there we were talking and I was just like I just like went blank I was like I don't know what to say like and then we had to restart and we when we had to podcast with uh coach Kendrick he uh someone someone didn't know how to plug the mic in properly and uh I'm sorry I re-record the whole podcast but hey yeah it happens I think failure gives you something to laugh at yeah we're laughing at it now wiping off a bit and you just life life moves on you have to like make the light bulb a thousand times before you know how to do it right I like that one I like that one that was good when I start when I first started editing the podcast uh the audio of it like this sometimes it's something I promise of the audio was so so bad not saying that you guys thoughts or anything like that I'm saying that like there was one mic and because of like all the surrounding area yeah like I had to do like a bunch of noise canceling that's messed up with the voices so then I had to go back and adjust it and adjust it and adjust it and adjust it but we learned from that and as a result you know now we have you know a better setup and just this time I added the I edited it's I edited the audio and from that I was able to like get down most of the you know leveling I was able to like level the audio get everything get everything you know crisp you know without the background noise and like two three minutes now because you know we've learned from our mistakes we were able to like move forward and you know even if it's not perfect at first you can learn from your mistakes readjust and try something new okay so like I don't have any professional experience whatsoever with any sort of editing song where I just learned it just by myself just Googling and learning about that I've been doing you know that sort of stuff like a couple of years now that yeah our editing like this podcast um it's Anderson what would you say I think from the teacher standpoint is um when you have a group of kids coming to ask you to do something and they're passionate about it you know accept that challenge I have several years of experience in the classroom but not a lot of time doing things like this as far as monitoring being in charge of this podcast so when you have those students that are willing to do it and they're a good group of kids take on that challenge um respect the fact that they want to grow they want to experience something and you will also learn along the journey it's been it's been interesting it's fun but it's great for the community so I would say give the kids a shot and be their support even when you don't want to do it I want to say thank you for allowing me to come into your school and talk to you about your beyond the charters podcast um again I'm Dr Fields the community engagement coordinator for the tgib team at KDE where our vision on our team is that each student an educator in Kentucky feels a sense of belonging so thank you for joining myself and the Beyond Chargers podcast team with lifting Kentucky's voices thank you [Music]
